Documentary Filmmaker & Non-Profit Executive 

Winner of the 2020 Women Transforming Media Award, I have been a documentary filmmaker since 2000 and an executive producer since 2018. I am a humanist, an optimist, a feminist, an immigrant to the U.S., and passionate about telling stories with heart. I have worked on over 90 documentaries to date, specialized primarily in women’s history, gender equity, and social justice projects. After a decade on the production staffs of National Geographic and PBS, I founded an independent production company driven by a mission to champion thought-provoking and impactful media projects by and about women, foreground untold narratives of changemakers, bring hidden history and underreported contemporary stories to life, and bridge the past and the present in bold new ways. I love the collaborative nature of filmmaking, as well as being a mentor to emerging talent. Ensuring my documentaries have impact beyond the screen — in classrooms and in local communities — is an important aspect of my practice.

I have raised over $4 million in documentary production and impact funds from federal and state institutions (including the National Endowment for the Humanities, National Endowment for the Arts, and a dozen state humanities councils), non-profit organizations (including the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and ITVS), private foundations (such as the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and Wyncote Foundation), and individual donors.

Through my 12+ year relationship with the Pulitzer Prize winning independent media organization Futuro Media, including two year-long stints as its Interim Executive Director, I have also become a seasoned non-profit executive, with experience leading strategic planning, development/fundraising, business management, finance, multimedia production, engineering, marketing, admin/operations, and human resources. I am adept at staff management, troubleshooting and problem solving, have exceptional collaboration, communication, organizational, interpersonal, and writing skills, and a deep commitment to cultural competency and working with diverse teams.
